Hackney’s Oslo introduces rich and vibrant Venezuelan Cuisine from Arepa & Co | My London Times

Oslo, Hackney and Arepa & Co have joined forces to bring traditional Venezuelan cuisine to the live music bar and club venue in Hackney.

Arepa & Co, a culinary venture founded by Gus and Kathe, is deeply rooted in the flavors of South American cuisine. Drawing inspiration from their homeland, the couple launched their business by setting up a stall at the renowned Camden market. The delectable and vibrant dishes they serve quickly garnered a devoted following, captivating the palates of Londoners and etching a resounding success story for Arepa & Co.

Upstairs at Oslo is a popular music venue with a diverse lineup of live performances in 2023. They host big underplays, feature the most hyped new bands, and also have takeovers by popular acts like Hot Chip, London Jazz Festival, Mirrors Festival, and Visions Festival.

Oslo offers 2 for £12 cocktails every day until 11pm and features DJ sets from top London promoters and tastemakers. They have a variety of events throughout the week, including takeovers by Balamii, No Signal, Wheelie, Plastic Factory, Bondax, and Locomotive Disco. Oslo also serves delicious food from Arepa & Co.

At Oslo, the chefs make fresh dishes to order. They serve Arepas (round and flat cornbreads filled with meats and vegetables), Cachapas (sweetcorn pancakes topped with savory fillings), and traditional rice bowls (filled with black beans, cheese, fried plantain, and a choice of meat or vegetables).

The cuisine is centered around corn, black beans, plantain, and yuca. These ingredients are prepared in various ways and often served with braised meats. The menu is mostly gluten-free due to the use of corn, and there are plenty of vegetarian and vegan options available.

There is a delicious menu of small ‘Tapas’-style plates to share, inspired by Venezuelan cuisine. Some favorites include crispy cheese pastries called ‘Tequeños‘ with guava sauce, cassava chips known as ‘Yuca Chips‘ with garlic mayo, and a variety of filling options for ‘Arepas‘. The restaurant also offers a tempting brunch menu on weekends.
