The Light Bar Shoreditch unveils its vibey Sunday Sessions | My London Times

The Light Bar, an iconic renovated three-story warehouse rapidly gaining prominence in East London’s dining scene, has unveiled its new ‘Sunday Sessions’ menu. The menu showcases a range of dishes inspired by the traditional Sunday roast, aimed at highlighting seasonal produce in an atmospheric setting. Our editor, Kai Lutterodt, headed down to Shoreditch to uncover more…

Curated by Head Chef Ali Borer, previously of the Smoking Goat, the menu combines Asian flavours with the finest British ingredients. Ali joined the The Light Bar team earlier this year and has been developing exciting new flavours into the menu. My initial introduction to Chef Ali was when he personally presented our medium-rare aged sirloin to our table. Sporting an “OBEY” cap tilted to the side, there was an effortless coolness about him as he spoke calmly yet proudly about the dish he’d whipped together. Now, I’m not saying everyone can expect a meet-and-greet from the chef, but for a press visit, it left a favourable impression.

What you can expect, however, is a dining experience infused with vibrant flavours and innovative techniques, and in the background, an eclectic playlist of soulful tunes. The Light Bar brings a refreshing twist to a classic British tradition. Chef Ali Borer draws upon his rich experiences and passion for Malaysian and Southeast Asian cuisines.

With a commitment to sustainability at its core, the menu showcases a ‘head to tail‘ approach, ensuring that every ingredient is thoughtfully utilised to minimise waste and maximise flavour. The team further champions sustainability by working with a range of British suppliers including Lyons Hill Farms in Dorset, and sourcing their fish from British waters via Woods Fish.

Menu Highlights:

  • Spiced Cured Trout with Shiso: Indulge in the exquisite flavours of cured chalk stream trout, delicately seasoned with nah jim seasoning and accompanied by crispy puffed rice and fragrant shiso leaf.
  • Roasted Iron Age Pork Loin: Savour the succulent goodness of iron age pork loin, expertly roasted to perfection and served with mouth-watering sweet & sour sauce.
  • Slowgrilled Whole Fish of the Day: Enjoy the finest catch. Grilled to perfection, the tender flaky flesh offers a burst of freshness complemented by smoky notes from the flow grilling process.

… And even if there’s no room for dessert, you’ll want to make an exception for the cocktails – you can thank me later.

Whether gathering with friends for a leisurely Sunday brunch or a daytime date, Sunday Sessions is a great opportunity to indulge in a great value dining experience that will stay with you long after the final dish is enjoyed… Don’t mind me, I’m over here still daydreaming about my incredible visit!
