We’re flipping the pan despite the pandemic this pancake day! We’ve selected a handful of London-based restaurants offering dairy-free, gluten-free and vegan pancake perfection to satisfy your appetites! Our features editor Liv Wells shares more!
With everything going on in the world, it’s safe to say that International Pancake Day has crêpe’d upon us all this year. However, no complaints here, we all need a good buttering up. A day of total indulgence in all things pancakes, unless you’ve got ‘flipping’ food intolerances (like myself) or a vegan, which both strictly limits your options.
Excuse my waffling, but no-one should miss out on milking the one day in the international calendar where it is acceptable and encouraged to stuff your face with stacks of pancakes!
From pancakes to essential kits and recipes, these yummy London restaurants are sure to satisfy your taste buds and sensitive tums, offering dairy-free, gluten-free, vegan and paleo (whatever that means) pancakes for you to enjoy or cook up yourself at home if you are feeling creative. Whether you find delight in crepe-style pancakes or prefer the thicker fluffier kind, we have you covered this Shrove Tuesday and any day of the week.
Superb, allergy and animal-friendly ingredients, delivered straight to your door! WTPA Pancake kits are the ultimate stay-at-home treat to bring everyone together and around
a stack of fluffy pancakes. With various gluten-free and vegan options available everyone will be able to join in on the pancake perfection fun. Their bespoke gluten-free 3-in-1 flour mix, which you can buy separately or sub it into any of the KITS and their Vegan Pancake Day Kit will be on sale for the remainder of February. All meal kits are delivered in a cool, insulated box with compostable, recyclable packaging and one box feeds approx. 6 pancake loving adults.
One of the oldest pancake houses in London dating back to 1958, My Old Dutch offers a wide array of gluten-free and vegan savoury and sweet pancakes all year round. Their gluten-free pancakes are made from rice, tapioca, buckwheat and potato and their vegan pancakes are made using the same gluten-free pancake mix, but replacing cows milk with soy. Rest assure that all their wide menu selection of Classic Savoury & Sweet Pancakes, Kids Menu Pancakes, Lite Option Pancakes and Breakfast Pancakes, can all be adapted to gluten-free and vegan, leaving you spoilt for choice. To fulfil your pandemic pancake cravings, they are available for takeaway and delivery on Deliveroo or UbersEats
The ultimate Notting Hill hotspot and first on my post lockdown list of ‘go to’s’, Farmacy, offers a plant-based menu and focuses on organic and chemical-free food that is full of exciting fresh ingredients. Their gluten-free and buckwheat flour pancakes served with seasonal fruits, coconut ‘yoghurt’, caramelised pecans and maple syrup, and are available nut-free on request.
These Insta and drool-worthy creations are available to order on Deliveroo, Uber Eats and Ordit.
If you prefer thinner pancakes filled with your favourite fillings, then Crepeaffiare is definitely for you. From Ferrero Roche to Wiltshire Ham and Cheese, all of their buckwheat galettes are gluten-free, enjoyed sweet or savoury and made using only the freshest natural ingredients. With multiple locations across London available for delivery, you’ll find that you are never far away from a Crepeaffiare.
You can always count on Christopher’s for the best pancakes, especially with their build
your pancakes option. I don’t know about you, but anything build-your-own means extra everything. They have a special allergen pancake menu, including the gluten-free and vegan born-to-be-healthy pancake trio served with coconut yoghurt and pomegranate – which are the sweetest thing. Although due to the national lockdown, Christopher’s is closed until further notice, we cannot wait to be brunching away as soon as they open their doors.
Try flippin’ it yourself!
Stacks of Goodness pancake mix focuses on the good stuff – all mixes are vegan, low in sugar, gluten-free, and high in protein.
